converting windows xp back to 98 SE

how can i convert windows xp back to windows 98 SE...decided i dont want xp on this machine and would like to do 98 just wondering if i have to forma or what steps are involved..however i dont have a start up disk can someone tell me if i can download the files to cd somehwere?

unless you saved the win98se confiqureation files so that you could go back to w98se, then you don not have that recourse, meaning that a full reformat and install for w98se

And you don't even need a start up disk coz the Win98 CD is bootable. So you have to boot from the 98 CD, do the fdisk + format stuff, then run Win98 setup and install it.

If you did an inplace upgrade from 98 to XP, saved the files when prompted, and did NOT convert to NTFS, you can uninstall XP through add/remove programs and it will revert. Note that it will leave all kinds of useless shortcuts in your Network Neighborhood, you can delete them.

how would i format on xp...and then do a fresh 98 installation?..sorry kinda new at this...

If you did not convert to NTFS, you would reformat with the 98 bootdisk or CD before you install. If you converted, you would need to run Fdisk off the bootdisk or CD and delete the non-dos partition, then create a new primary dos partition, then format it.

Refer to the PC Mech BYOPC guide, section on preparing the hard drive.
