Newbie startup disk
I'd like to create a bootable start up CD-how do I go about this? I see that when I format a floppy, I can check to create a startup disk-can it be done on a CD-R?

If you are talking about for installing Windows, you don't need to (unless you're running one of the older OS's like 95, in which case you need the boot floppies). The disc is bootable. Just set your Boot Order in the BIOS to CDROM, pop in the disc, and you're good to go.
