Wake up from sleep problem
When my computer wakes up from sleep mode, it mostly works, however:
* The mouse intermittently freezes, in fact I think its the whole system * If I open my computer, it never shows the drives. I'm still able to open shortcuts to folders and drives however. From memory a service freezes after wakeup, but I can't remember which one. My mouse is also USB through a PS2 adapter. |

Use Hibernate instead of sleep.

Hello JamesH,
My icons disapperar when I recover from sleep mode. My AIM also freezes for a second, and the drives take longer to show up. That is why I am no longer going to put my system into sleep mode, I'd suggest you do the same. |

I have never gotten sleep mode to work correctly; it seems to be far more trouble than it is worth.

I also have the same problem, if I use the poewr options to turn of monitor after some time, most of the time, when I try to wake up the pc, no response, no matter what I do. The monitor is on. Sometimes it restarts after a while and the screen turn off normally. I'm afraid to turn off monitor using the power options that I just use the Blank screen saver or unplug the power cable. Anyone know why this happens?

Not sure, but sleep mode also screws up my internet connection afterwards.
Could be a hardware issue, mystvearn; because this does not happen to me and I also use the power option to turn off my monitor after some time. |

Any difference between S1 and S3 sleep?
It looks like too much hardware is not sleep compliant. |

just don't use sleep, just leave the computer going it won't hurt it really. In a study a few years back a computer left on for two years lasted longer than a computer turned off ever 6 hours(or somethign like that) for 2 years, becuase of thermal expansion. This study was with older equipment but you get the point. The only thing you really need to have turn off is the monitor.

I'm sure everyone has there own methods, but the one that works for me is: After 15 minutes idle, turn off the monitor - After 20 minutes idle, go to standby - Hard drives are set to NEVER turn off. Any keyboard or mouse activity brings it back up. When I have used the "sleep" button on either of my keyboards, everything comes back the same way and everything works fine. When I leave the house, I shut all the machines down. I'm wondering if some bios setting or Services that are running may be causing your problems. I disable several Services in XP Home based somewhat on the recommendations of Blackviper.com.
