Please help, I'm baffled.
I 'm using Xp Pro with service pack 1 with a 6 month old pc with a fairly high spec. Over the last couple of weeks my pc has been freezing and then then going into ms dos and doing this :
PCI device liisting (lists all me devices below) Verifying dmi pool data Boot from cd Boot agent fe v4.1.10 Client mac addr 00 0c 76 27 93 B8 guid ffffff ffff ffff ffff ff PXE-E53 : no boot filename received PXE:MOF : exiting Intel boot agent After that the only way to get back to windows is to turn off the pc, restart justs takes you back to the pci device listing bit. Any help would be great. Thanks. |

In between these incidents, has your PC operated normally or has it been down since the first occurrence?

It works fine in between incidents. I should also add that the hard drive does make a churning noise whilst windows is frozen.
My first thought was it could be a power surge problem or my network card was playing up. I've opened up the pc and re-seated my network card and generally given it a once over. One last thing, the first time it happened all my zone alarm preferences were wiped out. I've since re-installed zone alarm and that seems to be o.k. Now just waiting for it to go again. Cheers. |

Since this is happening in Windows and not at start up have you run checkdisk ?
Your next step would be to download a disk diagnostic from the HDD makers web site but try checkdisk first. edit : it's possible that the only thing you need is a repair of your XP install but check the disk first. Last edited by pam123; 02-28-2004 at 07:59 PM. |

Open a command prompt and type CHKDSK /R
You will have to reboot. |

Just a quick update and a thank you for all that replied. Tried everything suggested and more.
Still the same problem persisted. Did a full install yesterday, and so far o.k. Thanks again for your thoughts. drum77. |
