Can't install XP Service Pack 1
A friend of mine has not been keeping up on critical updates on his machine and I am trying to help him out.
Have downloaded XP Service Pack 1 as I thought it would be a good place to start but am unable to install it. I get the error message "Service Pack 1 Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer". I searched and found a supposed fix in Microsoft Knowledge Base article #813442 but keep getting the same error message even after applying the fix. Anyone have any insight as to what to do next? Is the copy of XP on the machine legit or a bootleg copy?
