How do I get rid of recently viewed documents? in 98, I just clicked on the lower taskbar and brought up taskbar and startup properties, and there was a button that allowed me to delete. XP ( I am new to XP) has no such animal. How???

It works the same you just have to go deeper. In the taskbar right click to get to the properties screen, click the Start Menu Tab, and then on the next screen click on the Customize button. There you will see the Clear Button.
