Exclamation Windows 2000 (Broken CD)

Alright, I am up the creek without a paddle. I have just attempted to reinstall Windows 2000 on my computer. The whole setup went without a hitch, until it got to 99% or copying files. acpi.* were not able to be copied, so I took out the CD to inspect it to discover a small crack from the inside out. I continued the installation only to find out these files have something to do with USB and now the system won't boot at all. I have a copy of the files on my second hard drive, but the hard drive is formatted as NTFS.

Also on the same computer I have a Emergency copy of linux installed and that is what I am using now. Basically the 2000 CD is not working at all any more and I don't have a boot disk. I know that Linux supports reading from the NTFS drive, but it is not reccomended that I use Linux's write feature.

Is there any boot disks that support NTFS and can be created under Red Hat Linux.

2000 is the only bootable CD I have and like I said I don't have a boot disk.

Really stuck on this one.

Anthony

I wouldn't recommend this but you could download 2000 from a p2p client. But as long as you paid for your serial number or activation code and use it in this instance; you shouldn't get into any trouble.

This is my only beef with anti-piracy is that you gotta be able to copy the original CD in cases like this.

Not a good idea smidget. I think that is still illegal, even though he does have a legit copy. Plus, there are often problems with pirated copies of OS's, which is what you would be getting from a P2P service.

I believe it is legal to make a backup copy of your OS, as long as it is for your own use, and you follow the EULA.

What I would do is to contact MS, explain your problem to them, and see if they will send you a replacment disc.

If you have a genuine copy, etc. Microsoft will help you out.
