I am about to upgrade from Win98 to Win XP Pro. Do I need to worry about losing my current archive of emails (messages sent and received) and the address book in Outlook Express? Or, will all of my email data remain safe during the upgarde?

Everything should remain in tact.

Yes, everything should be fine but it wouldn't hurt to back up any important data before you do the upgrade--especially if you haven't performed a backup recently.

Upgrade from Win98 to XP Pro
Thanks to all who took the time to reply. Is it necessary to back-up the entire hard drive (to save the email files) or just the my own data files? I will also be upgrading to Office Pro 2003 - any words of wisdom on this one?

It's not neccessary to back up the whole drive, only the things you want to save.
I would advise backing it up and doing a clean install of XP on a drive formatted in the ntfs file system. The upgrade path (one OS over another) can end up being problematic. |

I agree completely with Alfie. You just retain old problems when you do an upgrade.

I am another that would opt for a clean install using NTFS. You can back up your emails and address book prior by opening OE, selecting Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > select Store folder. That will give you the location of your OE mail folders.
Burn that to a CD and then you can copy it back when OE get reloaded. Chas
