windows 2000 server - quick question
Hello there,
I am just setting up a windows 2000 server machine as a domain controller. When setting up the network identification it insists on suffixing my domain name with .com. Could someone please explain the technical background to this and whether it has any implications for a standard network. It is not a big problem, I just like to understand the mechanics of the situation if possible. Thanks in advance. |

You could make your local domain suffix .lan or .local, which makes it easy to identify . It doesn't really care what the suffix is just that you have one. You will be able to log in to the domain by either this way:
username@domain.lan password or username password domain (without the suffix) |

Thanks for that,
Anyone know exactly what the reasoning behind it is? |

I believe it may have something to do with the fact that the Windows 2000 Server runs Active Directory Services.
