Upgrade
I run a server that consists of one server machine that runs Windows 2000 advanced server, and all the others run Windows 2000. If I were to upgrade all the computers to Windows XP, except for the server, which will still be running 2000 advanced server, will there be compatibility problems?

ComputerDragon79,
I have seen/worked on several networks that have servers running Windows 2000 (Advanced) Server and XP desktop clients--I have not encountered any compatibility issues at all. Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade the desktops from W2K to XP? Hmmm...the remote desktop connection feature would be nice from a support standpoint. HTH, -LW |

Hmm, remote desktop. I didn't think of that, there's more incentive to upgrade, because from the support standpoint. Anyways, the main reason I was thinking up upgrading is quite a few new computers are being added to the network, and they have XP installed on them. I try to keep the operating system in a network the same, so I was just going to upgrade the other computers.

be careful - some of the older machines may struggle with XP - check the specs. I had a bozo come into one of my clients (MCSE even) and put XP Pro on a couple 350 MHz machines with 64 megs ram and 3 gig hard drives. BIG mistake.
