can't reinstall Win 2000

Help! I was in the process of reinstalling Win 2000 on my machine when setup would not copy several files, including ntldr, on the machine. I continued with the install and upon booting the message "ntldr missing, press ctrl, alt, del to start" pops up. I even tried installing an old copy of NT4 knowing that it also contains an ntldr folder but it still reacted the same way and would not copy that file or boot up w/o displaying the same error message. Appreciate all the help I can get

Most likely problem is bad ram.

I had the same thing happen to me once while reinstalling Windows XP, with that same file "ntlder" not getting copied. I quickly realized that I had done the reinstallation on a computer that was overclocked but had not yet been checked for stability. I then temporarily returned the BIOS to its default (non-overclocked) settings and then was able to successfully re-install Windows XP. My experience may be simply anecdotal, but I'll still ask: are you overclocking on the computer to which you're referring?

The machine is running an AMD chip advertised at 2000+ but I think they overate or round off the speed of their chips

It sounds like what you're saying is that you have not made any changes in the BIOS to increase the CPU's speed then, correct? If not, I would second glc's opinion that your RAM is bad.
