windows XP home edition

Ikeep getting an error message everytime XP starts

it says that windows is shutting down to prevent further damage to the computer and it starts to dump the physical memory to the hard drive...aalot of times before I get the error message a macfee driver fails then the message comes up..tech support at dell said I need to re-install, if I re-install should I wipe the hard drive clean and start from fresh or should I jus do a repair using the XP disk

Have you scanned your computer for viruses/spyware? If you haven't, perhaps you can do this in safe mode.

The quickest frist test is to disable McAfee. Many people (including myself) have nothing but trouble with their software.

And, as suggested above, if you have two mem sticks, try swaping them out one at a time to see if that makes a difference. Or you can also try a memory tester such as DocMemory found at www.simmtester.com
