WinXP expectedly shutting down

Hi guys
I am writing this on behalf of my better half, Redvette. First, let me preface by saying he obtained a bootleg copy of WinXP Professional by accident. Honest, we did think it was legit. We are now in process of locating a REAL WinXP.

Anyway, here's what's happening for the last 2 days. While operating the computer.....online or off, suddenly a message pops up saying (words to the effect): "System Shutdown. RPC Services unexpededly terminated. Please save all data (meantime, there is a countdown) Terminated by NT System Authority" (or words like it).

Once the countdown reached zero, the computer shuts down. Dick has to reboot.

Could this be happening because it's a bootleg? Very frustrating. Thankfully, we'll be formatting and replacing with real WinXP soon. In the meantime, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Cissy and Redvette

XP shutting down

dang
I forgot to mention that this ugly bootleg did not come with SP1. That should have been a clue in the first place, but being novices, we just didn't understand

Edit: lil Jimmie is invisible..I didn't even see him reply.

Sounds like your machine is infected with the MSBlast virus:

Be sure to load some antivirus software especially when you get your legit copy of XP.

Thanks guys. You hit it right on the head. Crap. Since it is a bootleg, we cannot get any critical updates or patches. So, we are in process now of purchasing legit XP software.

Thanks for you great help...damn worms :-P
