Terminal server services problem
I have a problem installing the terminal services in a Windows 2000 server domain controler, the first time I tried to install the service I forget to disable the antivirus auto-protect, and of course it caused a few virus errors, after it, the service was suppose to be installed, and it was, but when I clic the windows star icon in the task bar it does not work, like if it doesn´t has code in it, and if I clic the My Pc icon it display the content as it would be working in VGA mode, I had to restart the server in safe mode and uninstall the terminal services, after this everything worked fine again, but if I try to install the terminal service again (with the antivirus auto-protect disabled this time) the same problem is back again.
is there a way to fix this without having to reinstall the server again? If I have to reinstall the server again, how can I make a back up of the active directory clients and etc...? |

What do you mean when you said "clic the windows star icon"? Are you trying to run a specific application with terminal services? -LW |

No, What I mean is that after the installation Windows become inoperable, the icons doesn´t work at all, I am installing the service in remote administration mode, I have to press Ctrl+alt+del and restart the server in safe mode to uninstall the service.

Are there any events in your event logs (system, app, etc.) notating any issues with installing terminal services, etc.?
Also, what SP do you have on the server? -LW Last edited by LiVeWiRe; 03-12-2004 at 04:10 PM. |

I have SP-3, I tried in another machine and it installed fine, I guess that the Antivirus mess something in the server, I´ll check the event viewer.

easg,
Anything interesting in the event logs? Have you tried stopping your antivirus software services altogether before installing terminal services? (What A/V software are you using?) -LW |

I have uninstalled the antivirus, but It seems that it destroyed something, I guess I will have to reinstall to avoid future problems.

I am sorry if you thought I meant to uninstall your antivirus software. All I was suggesting is going in and stopping any of the services for the antivirus software and then trying the installation of the terminal services components. Good luck, -LW |

Did installing terminal services without the antivirus software seem to resolve the problem?

No it didn´t, may be the antivirus damage something when autoprotect was activated. I will have to reinstall the server top correct this.
