XP or 2000

I am building a PC for prodution use. This machine will be used to run a RIP software, Onxy Production House, and then send the files to two large format printers.

I am not a regular PC user and since I have had two people tell me directly to stay away from Windows XP because it is unreliable and full of bugs I was wanting to ask for a few opinions.

I heard the same about Mac OS X but after version 10.2 came out there is no way I would go back to OS 9.

Could that also be the case here. When XP first came out it just needed some bug fixes, ect.

I currently use 2000 when I do have to use the PC and it's fine but I would just as soon have the most current OS available if that is a good choice.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between 2K and XP. They are built on the same kernel. If you have 2K and you like it, and you don't have any software or hardware compatibility issues, then I see no need to switch. Only if you need to use hardware or software that doesn't work with 2K would I change.

I would run whatever OS that the maker of your production software recommends for best results. I personally prefer Windows 2000 to XP, but a LOT of people here feel the other way. They are both very stable operating systems, I just don't like the extra baggage and fluff of XP and the wizards drive me nuts, I'd rather configure things the way *I* want, not how Mickeysoft *thinks* I want it.
