Can't install XP

Ok so my buddy just bought himself all the parts for a computer and put it together after my successful attempt at doing the same thing. Only his didn't turn out like mine did. Heres the problem. The computer hardware is all put together fine and posts just fine. But during the install of WinXP Pro, it will crash half way and restart the install, over and over again. So I took the hard drive and stuck it in my computer and installed WinXP Pro onto it and it got it loaded with the drivers for the other computer. I stuck the new hard drive back into the new computer and it crashes during the loading process. From what I can tell of the crash, its right when the loading XP screen starts and it says something about a memory dump before it restarts itself. I tried safemode and it got to the mup.dll line and thats when it crashes. Ive tried a different sound card, different RAM, and different CPU to no avail. Here are the current specs...

Biostar m7ncd (nforce2)
Gail Value Series 512mb ddr400 ram
MSI geforcefx 5700 video card
AMD 2500+ Processor
Western Digital Special Edition 80gb HD
LiteOn Combo DVD/CDRW 52x
and a generic PS, not sure the wattage on it

Bios setting for the RAM FSB or CPU is incorrect. he has two sticks of RAM that are not matched, try it with only one if this is the case.
The XP install is very sensitive to hardware settings. Also if the board has an onboard LAN port, disable it in the BIOS during the setup. I did have problems with this on one build.

So I tried playing with the RAM some more and it fixed it. Thanks for the advice. I guess even moderate RAM isnt good compared to Crucial
