Install Compaq 10x DVD-ROM, Windows Wont Boot
After I put the dvd drive in my pc and connected everything, I plug all the cables into the back, boot the computer. It will get to where Windows XP is loading but it wont load, it will just freeze after a while. I looked on the IDE cable and it said CD-ROM Cable, will this work with a DVD Drive? Is there something else Im supposed to have other than the power cable and ide cable? It lets me boot into safe mode but I have no clue what to do there. Hopefully someone can help me.

Do you have the jumpers set correctly? It has done something similar to me in the past when i had it set to master on a slave.

I havent messed with any jumpers. All I did was pop the drive in there, connect the two cables and plug everything back in and started the computer. Its been so long since I've messed with this kind of thing I sorta forget what to do sometimes. Where should these jumpers be and how would I set them?

I found out what you meant by jumpers and they were both set to Cable Select. Thanks for the help.
