Hangs on Restart
Have two identical Acer Aspire MTII PII 333 computers on the bench. Both computers hang at the Acer splash screen when you restart during installations. What could be the cause of this? If you shut the computer down and then start it works fine.

If they are running 98 or 98se, I think an update will fix it. Have you run all the windows updates in them yet?

Not driver updates, just the regular Microsoft Windows Updates. You probably have an icon in the start menu. If not, open Internet Explorer, click on tools and you'll find a link there too. Just run all the critical updates and then be selective in the "recommended" updates area. I stay away from the auto notification (there aren't anymore), .net framework, euro conversion and languages. Good luck.

Did you check the bios for "quick boot enabled"? Also, disable virus scan of boot in bios to see if that is causing the problem.

You might want to try:
in "msconfig" select "advanced" check "disable fast shutdown" click "ok" then "ok" then "yes" for restart. you might want totake a look at this also http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm not much....good luck Last edited by stylin19; 03-20-2004 at 12:30 AM. |

The aumha site recommended by stylin19 has many good troubleshooting tips -
One that might help in this case is the Step-by-Step boot [Start tapping the F8 key while the computer is starting to see the Boot Menu, and choose "step-by-step confirmation"] If it hangs at the same step every time, research what the step is. That might lead to resolving whatever is haywire at that spot. [might need to remove a Registry entry, alter an .ini file, update a driver, etc] Best of luck . . . Gary |
