looking for reasons

I run Window ME at work on a 1 ghz Intel on a Gigabyte mobo. I had 12 mp3 files (about 40 meg)on my 4.3 gig fast scsi (50 pin) d drive running off an Advancsys card and was running out of room. I decided to make a sounds directory on the 20 gig c drive (ide). So i went into a dos prompt and ran xcopy32 d:\mp3\*.* c:\sounds. This was less than forty meg but it took over 3 hours. My cdroms are on this same cable and transfer data faster than that. It seems that the machine would read a very small block (maybe a second) and then immediately write it. So I tested another machine in the shop and it took less than 10 minutes to move 40 meg. Then I booted the Gigabyte machine from a win98 dos floppy to straight dos and then moved 4 meg of files. There was no difference even in straight dos. It was godawful SLOW. As I said my Scsi cdroms tranfer data faster thru the same card and cable. My question is "does anyone have any ideas at all about this mess? ANY AT ALL? EVERYONE?

hi carl
try using the command copy instead of xcopy or just drag the files from explorer from one folder to the other
