XP wont load
trying to run windows XP pro.. when I try to start it up, it asks me start windows normal. so i do.... but right before i should see my desktop... all i get is a blank screen with a white horizontal line across the bottom of my screen...and it just sits there...
you should also know that i installed the windows while HD was in a diff comp.. I had to do this bcuz i could not install in the other computer bcuz the install would always stop at 34 min....and ppl on the net say its a hardware problem.. But all i had was memory and vid card.... So i didnt know what else to do, other then install in a diff comp then switch over.... Can anyone help me with the white line problem? Thanks. |

it could be the fact that you installed on one machine and probably loaded all the drivers and then switched to a differnt PC. However my recommendation would be to put the XP Pro CD in and run the repair utility on the current machine. I doubted it until last week when it saved my ass from a hardware failure. Give it a shot

Can you boot into safe mode? If you can try uninstalling your video driver there and see if you get the same problem.

so far the repair thing is not going so well.... and safe mode hangs on MUP.SYS and stops loading.

Have you checked your processor?I once had some problems getting an install done and it turned out to be a bad processor, changed it out and all went smoothly.

You really should be testing your hardware. If XP wouldn't install the odds are that it won't run until you and correct the hardware problem.
I think it's more likely to be ram then cpu but you need to check things out. You can begin by trying the ram in another comp. |

the best thing you can do id to remove all partitions off that hard drive and start all over with a clean hard drive, install xp, then the drivers for the motherboard, in that order.
then install any other software you need. |

I would now like to say. Thank you to all the ppl who were trying to help me out. I appreciate it. Windows xp is now installed.. It decided to work after I flashed the bios and put the default setting on. Who knew.... more then 15 hours of working on it... and it turned out to be so simple. Anyways, Thanks a bunch to the ppl who gave me ideas to try.
The end. |
