Windows XP Multiple Installations =(
I'm not used to using Win XP... I still have win98, and WinXP does not have dos.
So when I reinstalled windows XP after a virus, I chose new installation assuming it would format first and install over it. Well that didn't work, now there's two versions of windows XP installed. the new one works fine, but my virus scanner is still picking up viruses from the old install, plus when I turn on the computer I have to pick the first option to boot into the correct version. what do I need to do to completely get rid of this old install, and how do I tell the two apart when deleting the old install? I wish so much for a working fdisk or format command in the future, but for now I want to keep the good install and completely obliterate the old one. Any help is appreciated I'm mainly looking for how to delete the old installation now, in the future it would be helpful to know how to do a clean install. It said I couldn't delete main partition because windows setup files were using it. Makes sense, but then how the hell do you delete it? |

when u installed xp and chose the partition to install it on it usually prompts you to format the partition as there is another windows installation on it or something like that.

Save any data files you need to removable media, do a new XP install, and tell it to delete the partitions.
