Computer won't shut down...
I go to shut down my computer but it will not shut down. It will go through the shut down process, but then it hangs up at the "shutdown" screen. I am running Win XP.
Anyone have any suggestions? TIA, |

Why would you want to shut down your PC anyways?

I cannot seem to find my problem... None of those seem to work... My computer gets stuck at the "Windowos is shutting down" screen... The mouse pointer goes away and the computer is unresponsive to ctl/alt/del...
I can't figure it out.... |

Try going into safe mode and then shutting down. If you can shut down successfully, it could be a driver doing it, or some process in the background.
When you installed the OS, did it shut down fine? When did this start happening? What did you install before this happened? I am guessing something is running in the background that is causing this issue. Well, I am in school right now, so I will check back when I get home. Good luck. |

definately sounds like something running is your background.
goto: start/run/ type: msconfig and see what is running in startup. check these names using the website: answersthatwork.com Task List. also run Adaware to check for spyware. |

I would go into msconfig and uncheck one service at a time and try shutting down. The last process you uncheck and if it shuts down good, then you know that was the process causing the problem.

I am at work now so I can't do anything at the moment. I have run throught the startup and turned off stuff I do not want, but I have not troubleshot each one to see if those would be causing it... I will try that when I get home.
I have run Adaware several times... Always finds tracking cookies. Other than that its fine. I will let you know if any of that works. I appreciate everyones help!! Thank you! |
