boot floppies to a CD
I downloaded that Windows XP Pro boot up software from Microsoft that took 6 floppies. I may be buying a computer that does not have a floppy drive. If I copy the info. from those six floppies into a folder on my hard drive, and then burn it to a CD, will I be able to boot up the new computer from the CD that I made ?

The Windows XP CD itself is bootable.
The 6 floppies from the M$ website you can just forget. RJ

I never could get the computer to boot from the XP CD. The boot discs. work a lot easier.

No, the CD works alot easier
Once you set up your bios correctly you'll see.The primary boot device has to be the optical, and the second one the hard drive. Maybe you additionally need to set the optical drive to AUTO in ide setup (older boards needed that, dunno about newer ones). If the PC can't boot from the XP CD then it won't boot from a CD you created. RJ |

I prefer booting from the CD myself. If you do as RJ suggested, booting from the CD might work better for you. Last edited by not important; 03-26-2004 at 07:23 AM. |
