Question how do you select mutliple things at one time?

I know this may be a stupid question but how do you select things by scrolling. I know you can press ctrl A to select all or hold the ctrl button and click on things individually to select multiple items but is there a way that if there is a long list of itmes you can hold down a button and scroll down to select everything below it or to a desired point without having to select everything? I know there is, I just have forgotten it.
Thanks,
Ron

Shift.

Or just use the mouse.

After selecting your first item (scroll down to it using the DOWN ARROW), press and hold SHIFT and tap END to select all items after it, or tap HOME to select all items before it.

If you want to select non-adjacent items in a folder, select the first item, then press and hold CTRL and tap the UP or DOWN navigation (arrow) keys till you reach the next item. Then, still holding CTRL down, tap the SPACE BAR to select that item. Repeat till you have selected all the items that you want to. The good thing about this technique is that you can select in either direction (up or down) at random.

Thing is, my way you don't ever need to touch the mouse. It's all keyboard, which is often far faster.
