Clean INstall
Currently building my first PC (decided my PIII 500 was getting old) and I have everything together and jumpers set and such. you can see a description in my signature of the computer. I started it up and set up everything in the BIOS. now how would I go about doing a clean install of XP Pro. I have the full disk but I do not have a floppy boot disk to run off of. I was in the process of making one on the computer I am on now and my floppy drive is toast. lol.. is there any way to formatt my hdd and install xp without having a floppy boot disk?

In BIOS set your CD as first boot device. Put the XP CD in and boot up. The CD is bootable and it will have the option to partition and format the drive prior to loading XP.

Hello Newgensti, and welcome to PCMECH if you havent been welcomed yet!
The XP CD is bootable, so you don't need a boot disk. Just go into your BIOS, set the boot sequence for CD-ROM first boot device, put in the CD, save changes and it will reboot and will load you to XP setup. Congratulations with the build! |

Thanks alot for the fast replys. I have one other question. after I set up everything in the BIOS I saved the changes and exited out and it wont boot up now. just keeps on giving me steady long beeps. I looked up the beep codes for pheonix and I cant find anything for steady beeping. should I clear the cmos and try again?

Yep, clear it and try again. Make changes more carefully. Do NOT overclock it till you get the OS installed, and take it in small steps.

yea, I cleared it and everything is good now. the problem was that I have an IC7 MAX3 motherboard and in the bios it lets you select a few different settings for a gaming accelerator. there are 4 choices and I believe that this some what overclocks everything a little bit and I made these changes before setting anything else up. so now I have everything set as it should and when I exit out it proceeds giving me a few errors which I would guess is because I dont have drivers and such installed yet and after skipping over them searches for my xp cd. so as soon as I get my cd tomarrow I will finish the install and hope for the best
