So what do you think?

Just curious what the opinion of this is. I had to pull my motherboard out of my PC, an Abit KX7-333 with an Athlon processor to use in another server. I plan on replacing it with a P4-800 and an Intel board. The system is running XP Pro.

I thought that I would stick the motherboard in and see if it would load XP and all the drivers. If that doesn't work, then I would do the repair mode in XP. Just curious what the opinion is on the steps. Should I even try step 1 or just skip ahead to step 2 and run the repair.

I did a mobo swap on my PC with XP pro and just to hopefully make it go a little smoother I did go into device manager and remove averything, then I shut down and replaced board and rebooted and it went quite well. Did have to reactivate though..

I don't have to activate this version since it is a corporate one. Unfortunately, the motherboard is in another system, so I can't delete all of the devices.

I don't know if this is typical, but when I went from my old PIII-800 on a KOB-815eTFSX mobo with 512 MB PC133 SDRAM to my current combo (in sig), I had to a fresh install. The system would go into an endless reboot cyclle, flashing a blue screen so fast I could not read it.

My advice is to back up all your stuff and do fresh install. That way you won't be stuck with residual drivers from the old mbob-CPU combo.
