DOS program in 98se
I am running some DOS programs from windows 98se and they run but very slow. This happens if I run from the shortcut or from the run command line. If I go to the DOS prompt and run them, they run fine. Is this a memory problem? When I go to properties , memory tab, it states this computer is not configured for EMS in DOS. Any ideas would be welcome.

That happened to me with some games. I have always been a friend of running the apps in the OS they were designed to run on. So, I set up the start menu (the real one, not the one that appears when you click on the Start button) to appear for 10 seconds after booting, so I could choose between Windows or real DOS at boot. You can do so using TweakUI.

Thank you for the response. Yes I agree they work better running in the OS they were designed for. I did find that by adding NoEMMDriver = OFF to the [386enh] section of the system.ini that it gives EMM support to the dos programs. Again thanks

Have you considered doing a dual boot and putting the EMM in the config.sys that matches the DOS boot.
You could also do a himem and emm386 in your 98 config.sys and have it available in the DOS window. Don't know all the ramifications because I don't have any of my systems set that way. |
