NTLDR is missing???

One minute I was using Partition Magic (waiting for it to reboot) and the next my NTLDR is missing and it advises me to Ctrl Alt Del but it can never progress beyond that start up screen(where PCI Devices are listed). I have no clue what all this is about and am in serious need of help. Is there anything I can do? Or am I stuck without being able to boot up my PC forever?
I-ve spent hours on it too no avail.
Thanks,
Craig.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
You should be able to do a repair by booting with the XP cd.

Insert the XP CD and from the XP recovery console, enter:

copy x:\i386\ntldr C:

with x: being your CD-ROM drive.

Good Luck!

I think fixboot from the console will be more productive - ntldr missing means that the drive is no longer bootable. The *best* thing to do is use the Partition Magic emergency boot floppies to undo what you just did, that's what caused it.

first check if u have a floppy in the floppy drive . sometimes when u have a floppy u get this message .in case u do not have a floppy then boot through the win xp cd , press r for recovery console , type chkdsk /r and restart when its over .maybe partition magin has corrupted the boot partition in some way , so u can also try booting to the dos promt and type fdisk /mbr

happy troubleshooting

fdisk /mbr doesn't work for XP, only 9x machines. You would have to use fixmbr instead.

Guys I have the exact same problem, having just used Partition Magic as well.

I've run the repair console and ran fixmbr and fixboot but to no effect. I've also copied ntldr and ntdetect.com from the CD, as well as a new boot.ini, but none of them have made a difference.

Can anyone help?
