Folders and sub-folders
I'm using Win XP Home, AMD 2800+ Barton, 160Gb 7200 8Mb buff, and 1Gb PC2100 DDR...I was told lately by a friend that general folders, sub folders, and data files are better kept in “MY Documents” rather than the C: drive area. I run 2 online game servers, 3 websites and 2 online forums which produce a wide range of folders, sub folders and data files that I deal with on a daily basis. Up to this point I have kept the financial folders and sub folders in “My Documents” and the rest of the general folders and data files on my "C: drive". (not C: Program Files/ ) Can you give me your thoughts on this and where you feel the best place to keep general everyday files and folders should be kept! All help will be fully appreciated!...

I would have to say it is purely a personal preference thing but I don't know of any technical, or security, or performance issues that would make a difference. Of course you can make the folder private, but as long as you're putting the files in a folder somewhere then I don't tink it really matters. The one think I do think though is that you don't want to just have a ton of files in the root directory C:, just as long as you store them in their own folder all should be well..

Thanx ktkendall...yah I try to keep things spread out a bit. I do try to reserve "Program Files" area for the executiable programs but then most are put there by default anyways.

I did hear (but have not verified) that you should keep the number of files and folders in the root of a drive to a minimum to improve disk see/accessk times.
