Refresh rates
Hi
For some reason my brother's PC (new install of Windows XP) seems intent on having its refresh rate at 80Hz even though the monitor cannot support it and stays in standby whenever it is selected I have changed it to 70Hz, it then works and then after a few reboots later, it's back on 80Hz and I have to VNC in from the other machine to log in and change it back Any ideas why this is happening and also how to tell XP NOT to let me go to 80Hz? Thanks, Jim

Is the box available that says "hide modes that the monitor cannot display"? Not sure if that's a feature of XP or of the Radeon cards I have.

Yes and is ticked, Windows seems to think the monitor can support anything

Plug and Play Monitor. It has been detected as this since we had Win95 (it's an old 14in)

It might help if you change it to the correct monitor model instead of Plug & Play monitor.
