Word 97 will not open in win 98SE

I am a volunteer IT support worker for CAB and one of the pc's on the peer to peer network is running Windows 98SE and Office 97. We can open Excel etc but when we try to open a new or existing word document the system just hangs and will not open. The user has said she saw a not enough memory message - it has 64mb dimm but has previously been ok.

I have installed the latest symantec antivirus and ran a full scan which found no virus.

The network connects via the regional office servers and their firewall (it is a VPN) so no firewall is installed at our end.

does is sound like a simple case of needing more memory?

Also, make sure your default printer is not a network printer that's turned off and/or not accessible. Your default printer should be an attached printer, fax driver, or "dummy" generic printer on LPT1.
