XP install drama

XP pro Install drama
Was trying to upgrade my computer from win XP home to pro.

All was working fine untill the first re-start. Then upon trying to refernece the XP pro CD I was using (borrowed from a friend) the CD disk could not be loaded - I later looked at the disk on another computer and found that when the disk was burnt that all the data was put inside another folder/directory layer making it impossible for the CD to be used as a boot disk etc etc as whn it looks for the files it needs they are embedded in another folder. dumb all the way round.

what now - whenever I turn the computer it is trying ot read from a CD-have tried putting a correctly burnt version of the CD and still the saem problem. Also tried looking in my mobo book and found out how to re-load CMMOS setting did this. what do I have to do to get the computer to forget about trying to load windows. can't get into Bios..

anyone have any clues about what to do?????

Previously posted and someone closed the thread.

Not sure where you guys got the idea that I don,t own a legal copy of Win XP. I do own one but the disk is damaged and I borrowed a backup as I only found out that the disk was damaged the first time I tried to re-install the OS.

The problem being that I bought the version whilst overseas and can,t get any local support here in australia for the version I purchased. It will take weeks do get a backup copy from Singapore ( where I bought the fully legal copy of XP pro).

So again does anyone have any fix for the problem as mentioned above?????????????????????????????????????????

If I was you, I'd contact Microsoft and explain the situation. See if they will help you out. What you are attemting to do IS illegal since XP is restricted to one install on one computer, regardless of your ownership of another copy. That's probably why your previous thread was closed. Even if you were to get the new install to work, you would not be able to activate it since it's already activated on another system. Good luck, and welcome to PC Mech.
