Question Shutting Down Plug N Play

Steve Gibson of www.grc.com

says to shut down plug n play to close a hole in W2K and XP.

I thought plug N play was a needed service.
Can anybody shed some light on this?

Thats UPnP (universal plug and play) - a whole different animal. This is for networking, not hardware devices.
