I Hate ME (and a question)

A while back, sometimes when I had IE open, my mouse would randomly freeze. The computer would still work, but the mouse would be stuck. Sometimes unplugging and plugging the mouse back in would fix this, but more often than not, I had to restart. I finally did a disk defrag, and reloaded Windows ME. Now, several months later, it did the same thing. Is this just another problem with ME, or is something else wrong?

What kind of mouse is it? Oh and I wouldn't "hot swap" a mouse if it is ps2, serial and usb I think this can be done.
Do you have Me completely updated? What are the rest of the system specs?
sounds like either a mouse driver not liking something, or maybe a recent install or software update could have conflicts.

I have had ME since it first was introduced and have not encountered that problem. Maybe its a problem with IE

It's a basic Hewlett-Packard Mouse, model number P8131.

System Specs

I've replaced the sound card but other than that it's the original system. Running Windows Me.

Does it freeze up anytime other than when using IE? Does it(the mouse) work with your other applications correctly? Try going to device manager and remove the mouse from your system there. Do not unplug the mouse. Then restart and let Me reinstall the mouse. Once it is restarted see if you can get it(mouse) to freeze-up again.

I don't really remember if I've had problems with non-browser programs. It hasn't happened since that one time either, so I'm hoping that means it won't. I'll definitley try removing it and restarting if it does act up again. Thanks for the help.
