Alternative Windows Shells
Has anyone done any gaming under an alternative Windows shell such as Litestep, Core, or GeoShell? Everything that I have read says that most of them work on fewer resources, freeing up more space for a game to run in. What I really want to know is if swapping out explorer.exe has caused any weird graphics or sound glitches within a game for anyone.
The only beef I have always had with XP is how much of a memory hog it can be. I think swapping exporer.exe might be my answer as long as I can still run everything I want. I'm working on a new system for gaming and I figured this might be the anwser to the dislike I have for how XP runs, but still have all it's features.
Now that I have explained what I want to do, does anyone have a replacment shell that they really like? I can't make up my mind from the info I have. Litestep is older but has a huge community. But then again GeoShell has a vary good rep as well. Then there is also BB4Win, Aston, XWindows, Blue Box....
