Some Apps Don't work with Fresh Install of Windows XP
I noticed some of my applications I've run on my other computers don't run on my fresh install of Windows XP Home SP1, or when I did a New Install to WinXP Pro SP1. IS there anything I should download that will allow to run these apps? All my other computers have the same OS(WinXP Home) they can run the apps fine.

Did you run the software compatability wizard before you installed XP. There are many programs that will not work correctly on XP or will need to be re-installed in order to get them to work.

I did a fresh install on a blank hd. I've tried the programs on other comps running the same OS. Is there any specific files I should add to the system 32 folder, etc in order to run these files or apps.
None of these apps were designed for a previous OS, so compatibility isn't the issue. Last edited by GhostRecon; 04-09-2004 at 12:18 AM. |

Sure seems like they should run on that XP if they run on others. Are all updated the same from Windows Update?

Eveything is installed. All software, All updates, Everything is installed properly. I used an OEM version of Windows which was provided by HP for my laptop, it shouldn't be a problem right?

An OEM version of XP provided by HP for a laptop will work fine on a HP laptop, but if you are using it on another machine, this is a violation of the license and we can't help you with any issues that result.

I was using OEM Version of Windows because I didn't have any Full Product Version of Windows to format my blank HD. I tried to run the apps on OEM version, they didn't work, so I wanted upgrade to Pro. Now the apps still don't work. I did a New Install.

I think you will need to purchase a new copy of xp- which ever one you want and do a fresh clean install before anything will work properly

How will that change my situation?
Does doing a New Install with my WinXP Pro, and upgrading to SP1, doesn't this count as a fresh install? |

Strange...
I installed full XP Home on my computer (not OEM or anything), and some programs don't work with it. The nVidia sound thingy for my mobo built in sound wouldn't launch the control panel app (showed some error, then closed), and VB6 setup wouldn't work. I got around the nVidia thing by updating drivers and stuff, but VB6 I had to do some hacking (the pre-setup launcher wouldn't run, and the setup worked, until it found out that I hadn't launched it with the pre-setup thing, so I had to make the setup think that I had already run pre-setup). |
