Upgrade to WinXP on Dell

I have an older Dell Demension 433 that I am trying to upgrade to WinXP Pro from Win98 about halfway through the installation I get a message corupt hardisk, but I have reformatted the disk with no errors. Is there something in the Dell BIOS?
Help
TIA

Are you sure you want to put XP on a 433? It's gonna be slow, especially if it has less than 256 megs of ram.

You should update it to the latest bios for any chance of a successful install. A clean install also gives you the best chance, upgrading from an existing 98 install can make a mess.

Can you but your Dell system hard drive in another computer and run Check disk (XP) or scandisk (98)? That will hopefully find and correct any disk errors. Also, that way you can check the drive using the drive manufacturer's diagnostics program. Or you can test it at the Western Digital on line test site here:
