Internet on some logons
on WinXP i can't connect to web pages on any logon other than the one originally created (which is not mine, but i have an administrator acount)
i have tried deleting the account, and creating a new one, but it doesn't make any difference. i can use the network however, and access files on other computers. also i've tried several applications its not just IE. as i say it works fully on the logon which was created when XP was installed. since i'm not the main user of the computer reformatting isn't really an option. the only other thing i can think of is using VNC to access a networked computer and getting web pages from there.. but its a wireless network so its not that fast. any other way of routing it through a computer.. or of course a solution would be nice

I had the same problem once and but when I would delete the account and recreate it with the same name it would fix the problem. So what I did is create an account with a different name and problem was fixed.
Its not a solution to the problem but a work around. |

Login to the account that is not connecting to the internet, go to the command line and type ipconfig .. Look under your network adapter that is being used and I'll bet you are not getting your default gateway.. Are you using DHCP or static IP addressing?? It would seem that the settings just need to be set properly for the other logins to match the same network settings for your login.. They don't automatically copy over, such as on my laptop I can login to company domain it it is all set to access the internet via a proxy server, but if I just login to win2k on the laptop it is set to use my home network settings here at home.. What make and model of router/wireless access do you have??

um its a Dlink DI-614+ wireless router w/ 4 port switch.. the same thing occurs when i have it wired to it, and when using the wireless card.
previously it just worked, but since it messed up and a clean install of XP was done, its been a no-go (other than on the main account) |

OK. well it almost has to just be settings on that other account, and it's likely as mentioned above under internet options>LAN settings, go there and see what the setting is..But could be the network settings which is why I suggested doing an ipconfig at the command line. If you getting a valid IP address and all which sounds like you are and if you see a default gateway that looks right then the problem will likely be under internet options>connections tab>LAN settings, you don't need anything checked in there..

It just does that by default sometimes, as I said it does not copy over the same settings from the other users, so you have to go in and configure certain things as you need them for each user..
