Please tell my dad to get a new comp.
We have had the same comp for the past 4 1/2 years. It has a Celeron 333, 128 megs of some really slow ram, a 13 gig hard drive(1.2 left), a Vodoo 3, and a SB audigy. This thing runs like s*** and I can't even run the old CC 95. For the past six months this thing has been freezing up ten to fifteen times a day. It takes about five minutes atleast for this thing to start up and about half that to shut down. My sister and I tired of it and I've given up on him letting me build it. Just please help.
Thanks, Thomas |

And what is your question ? Do you want to know how to make the PC faster or do you want recommendations for a new one ?
Does this machine have Windows 98 installed for 4 1/2 years without a single reinstall ? If so, then it's no surprise that your PC isn't working well. Windows 98 doesn't last that long. Wipe the hard drive, reinstall Windows, and your problems will disappear for at least one year. After one year you should reinstall it again. RJ PS: Of course no-one is going to your daddy to tell him to let you get a new comp. . . you sure were joking right ?

Come on RJ, you know that box won't play todays games even with a fresh install and mega tweaking.
But seriously Dad think about another box, being a dad myself I know how kids can get irritated at a slow pc and tis why my 12 year old has a faster PC than many adults here on the Mech

If you just want a PC to play games, just buy an Xbox
Its on sale these days or try Ebay. No Lag on XBox Live.

Whats that computer going to be used for? If you just gonna surf the net and get email that is enough if you reinstall and have good maintenance. But if you wanna play HL2 then thats when you go to the computer store.

Also, watch the language - we know what you were trying to say in spite of the stars and that's not permitted here.

I dont get mine to the summer, which I should be aloud to build. But my problem is I have to use the family comp. Another problem we don't have the Win98 disk, it was built by my dads friend in Tampa and he didn't give us one. All I'm looking for is for him to get a new family one so I can atleats play my old C&C games and make a Power Point presentation for school without this thing freezing. Thanks.

Well, if all you want is to play the old C&C games and make PowerPoint presentations without getting freezes, then all you gotta do is to reinstall Windows. If you don't have one, get one. You can get Win98 via ebay for cheap. Last month I sold my Win98 SE via ebay because I use XP and haven't used 98 for ages, and it was sold for about $35. So for that price you can get Win98 on ebay. Or you can ask at local computer stores, maybe they also sell used Win98 CDs.

Untill you get a new disk get a registry cleaner, delete temp files, run disk cleanup, defrag, scandisk and make sure you have a up-to-date antivirus, antispyware and antitrojan program. It wont completly fix it but thats gonna be a good start.
