I know that replacing the mobo causes problems in XP because of the activation thing. Is XP not starting or is the machine not starting?

Changing the mobo is a major hardware change for XP. Boot from the XP cd and do a repair install from the "new installation" area, not from the recovery console. That is in effect and over the top install that won't damage any data or previously installed programs, but it should recognize the new mobo and assign the drivers correctly. After the repair, be sure to install the latest drivers that come on your Mobo install disk. You'll also have to revisit Windows update to add all the latest updates.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, the pc still needs the boot disk. It will power up ok. It just won't boot without disk. Any other ideas.
