You can get a boot disk at www.bootdisk.com It will have Fdisk on it.

Or just insert the Windows 98 CD to boot from it. The Win98 CD already contains FDISK in the Win98 subfolder.

You can't do it with Win95, but with Win98 you can.
Just try it, and you'll see. RJ |

Well you can. Just make sure your CD drive is set to first boot device in the BIOS.

After booting from the Win98 CD you can launch fdisk from the command prompt, setup your partitions and format them.
btw you may have to reboot after you fdisk before you can format. |

. . . one extra little caution when prepping a drive for a Win98 (either edition) installation: if the new hard drive is over 64gb, you'll need an updated version of fdisk. [three ways to get that: 1) search the web for it 2) use the bootdisk.com disk for WinMe, or 3) use the utility from the hard drive's manufacturer [usually available as a free download].

Does the version of FDISK that is included on the WIN98SE CD support hard drives over 64gb or will you still need to update FDISK?

hi matt - the fdisk on the Win98se disk isn't the one updated for the drives larger than 64gb. I believe the WinMe disks have the updated version. You can still use the Win98se fdisk on a drive larger than 64gb, it just doesn't report the sizes correctly & can be confusing. If you use percentages, it will work OK. I generally prefer to use the more recent version.
