XP install ? NTFS no FAT

OK, here I am supposed to have at least an idea of what the heck I am doing.
If I FDISK(format) the HD with a DOS floppy I will end up with a formated HD that I can not use the command setup.exe, like I used to do to load 95//98.
So I boot off the XP CD. I agree with the hand your life over to Bill agreement, and proced to format the HD, BUT, it is only giving me the option to use NTFS!
Now, XP is already on the HD and in NTFS. But I do not believe that, it should stopp me from formating again, in a new install, with FAT32. Ahh, should it?
Did that make sense? I can't get the install, off the XP CD to format using FAT32. And I have no idea why.
any help is appreciated

Well. . . I don't know why it doesn't work for you, but why do you want to use the unreliable FAT32 instead of the superior NTFS ?

not my PC, fixing 4 some 1. If they want fat they get fat ehhh?
And I believe thay have other PC's on network with FAt32.
But I dont understand why it is only giving the option for NTFS. And this will drive me nuts untill I find out. There has to be a reason.
thnks

You said you already formatted them as FAT32. Windows XP Setup has an option to use the current file system without formatting.

Not sure if XP has a FAT32 format option, but I believe it does.

Anyway, the option to use the file system without change should be available.

Edit: Sorry RJ I didnt mean to anwer with the same thing. I missed your last line.

Windows XP should have the option to choose between fat32 or NTFS but since you say it doenst try this.

Format with bootdisk and create partitions.

Boot from cd and then choose the partition you want to intall XP. Then Just choose option that says dont make any changes. It should leave it as Fat32.

You could try fdisk first and delete the partition and then try to format.

Chrisk,
that is exactly what worked, but i am still, at a loss as to why i was only getting 2 options as to how i could format the HD, booting off the XP CD. It is not my first install with xp, and i am positive that(in past) I just used the CD to format and do the install, and had FAT, NTFS and like RJ, mentions an option to "leave as is". And I had those options without formating before hand.
Sometimes these little mystries get to me. I wasnt worried about getting it loaded, I just want to know why?
Thanks for all the time given
