Does it say press any key to retry or press any key to exit installation? When I installed XP on a other computer it told me there was a error while copying some files and I just needed to press any key(or was it enter?) to retry and then it was fine.

sounds like it could be a bad stick of memory, if you have 2 sticks take one out and try loading home, and if it does the same, take that stick out and put the other one in and try it again. If it still does it, or you only have 1 stick of memory maybe borrow a stick from a friends working pc and try it.
