un-installing Win 98 without the disk?

Hi...I lost the disk for win98 operating system and I was told I needed it to un-install it so i can install winxp. Would neone know of any other suggestions to my problem or do I have to find it in order to un-install it? Thanx a lot

You can remove 98se at the time you install XP by reformatting the hard drive to NTFS, the preferred XP format, during the install process. Just make sure you reformat the drive/partition 98 is on or you can end up with both os's installed and have a dual boot system. Save all your files by transferring them to another hard drive before you do the XP install.

another method you could use after you have saved anything you want is to just use fdisk and remove the partition.
xp will detect the drive and repartition and format it for you.
