scheduled tasks
I want to make my computer do all the maintenance stuff at night like defrag, disk cleanup, ect but when I put something in sheduled tasks it doesnt do it. Under status it sais it couldnt run caus there was no password(???). So I went in the tasks propreties and made up a password but then it just does nothing. Also, how could I make it run scan disk?

the password that it is referring to is the User password for the admin account on XP. You set it by going to User Accounts in the control panel. The problem is, scheduled tasks won't run unless there's a password (and you cant just leave it blank). i don't like to bother typing it in every time i turn on my pc, so i just gave up on scheduled tasks.

You can add an administrator account and use that one to run the tasks and just keep your regular logon without the password.
Good luck! |

Thats a good point, i hadn't thought about that. But then you'd still have to choose the account on boot up right? lol thats still too much work for me.
Anyways, thanks for the tip. Im gonna look for a good 3rd party one, will post back if i find one thats worthwhile (and free). mike |

No, you just create the account, log in to the new account and set up your scheduled tasks. When you create the task it will prompt you to enter the password and it will then be saved. From that point on it should log in automatically at whatever time you have set it to run and you should not have to do anything with that other admin account.

But it still doesnt change the fact that I still need to chose the original account before it logs in. I like to turn on my computer, go away and comme back when it loaded but i wont be able to do that.

Oh, I see what you're saying now. I guess that *click* and the extra 10-15 seconds would be a big loss of valuable time and energy.
![]() In all seriousness, I think that's your only other option besides looking for software elsewhere. Good luck! |

you actually dont have to log in as the other admin/user, just enter the credentials in task scheduler when it asks for them.

Well, I put a password, if I dont turn off my computer I wont need to put in the password, I got a cool login screen anyways
. How do I make disk defragmenter start on its own? Do I need to put a command after the path?
