xp home install problems
i have just completed a new build, but xp home keeps me going in circles.
at the point where the windows logo should appear iend up back at formatting the partition with no other choices. so i choose format and the response is there is already an os in place. i have retraced everything several times and end up in the same place. i guess you could say i am clueless |

After Windows XP reboots you don't press a key to boot from the CD again, do you ?
If you do, don't. The PC needs to boot from the hard drive. RJ

Tell us what you've done and if you're using a proper OS copy and and not a reinstall cd.
It sounds like you've been skipping several steps. So, to start you off, you've made the cd-rom first in the boot order and then saved and exited from the bios. Then you put the XP cd in the drive and hit restart, when the bios screen at boot up said : press any key to boot from the cd-rom you did so. Take it from there if I'm right so far. |

Make certain that you have bios virus protection turned off, this will prevent the setup from writing necessary files to the boot sector of the drive.
