I,m new and haviing trouble starting a message. I have been using Windows xp pro SP1 for about 3 weeks no problem. I am running it on a self built computer. An Asus mbo with a
pentium 4, 1.8mhz and 774mb of ram. Bios dated 7/11/02. I foolishly tried to back up using PQ drive image and failed. now when I start I boot up and lock up on the first Windows xp splash screen. I cannot continue in any modes, safe mode etc. I tried to do a repair install, having trouble with my cd_rom I tried with MS's floppy boot disks. On the second disk I received an error code 7.MS calls this a ram problem or MbO problem. I checked the ram with Memory86 test, ntf. I do not know how to further continue. Can any one steer me In the right direction? |

If you set the BIOS for the CDROM to be the first boot device then boot with the XP disk in.Go through the motions like you want to install. It will the see XP and ask you it you want to do a repair. Also, did you try using the F8 key on boot up and selecting "Last known good configuration"?
By the way, welcome to PCMech. There are lots of knowlegable people here that will help you. You came to the right place. trulad

windows xp start up problem
Thank you for your reply.I tried booting from the c-d as you
sugessted with the same result. The computer locks up at the first windows splash screen. When I boot with MicroSofts boot floppy's I get a message"ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded-code 7-reason-error in computer's basic I/O's Bio's configuration or one or more rams are faulty". I ran memtest86 for hours. NTF.The strange thing about this, is my OS's are on a removeable shelf. So I substitued Win Xp to Win 98 and ran memtest then switched back to Win Xp, It worked once, on retry It locked up, this does not work all the time. I am going nuts. Can you think of something else? |
