I am operating windows xp home edition, last night my kid try to load windows office pro to the home computer, but instead he partially loaded windows xp pro. when he relaize that he had inserted the wrong CD he stopped the setup and now my boot log on shows three choices 1. windows xp home edition 2. compaq recovery files 3. windows xp pro ( which does not work because it was never allow to finished the setup). now the problem I am having is that the system escrew up all the drivers, xp home version does not show a video driver, the font is huge and some programs won't work. I tried using F8 and reboot with last recovery but none is stored. I booted in safe mode and safe recovery somehow was now turn off. I need to find out if there's a way to undo the damage without - restoring the system to manufacture recovery disk. also if there's such a way can I delete the choice of boot under windows xp pro. and have the Operating System boot only to windows xp home edi. any suggestions will be apreciated. thank you

Hola.
I think that the recovery disks give you the option to repair the installation without formatting the drive. At least the few Compaqs and HPs I got to work on did. Have you checked if that option is available for you?

HP partions the HD to set aside a restore option. however the times I tried doing this it give the option to use windows restore before it continous, I should say xp pro deleted my restoring points when the set up was taking place. the computer also does not have the option to put the computer on stand by. this was corrupted when the set up took place. any ideas before I screw the whole system and go to the last straw of reformat the HD?
