Question New Motherboard running xp home vers.

I have a sccssi card which i was using for a scanner, now my new compaq pc does not have a slot to put this sccssi card on. any ideas, if there are possible add on or is this scanner obsolete. my mother board has space for three more cards add-ons but the sccssi is from a different slot. last time I did an upgrade was when pcu were running at 200mhz. so i guess I don't know what new components are out there. a word of wisdom will help. thanks

Is the SCSI card connector longer than the white PCI connectors on the motherboard? Then it is probably an ISA card, and it is obsolete.

all right, you said it thanks for the update. that's exactly what that is an ISA card and its longer for the available slots. Does this also mean that my scanner is obsolete? or can I purchase something else to make it work

It depends on the scanner, but I think it is more than likely that it is obsolete. You can easily get PCI SCSI cards, but whether your scanner can use it depends on the scanner, I believe.

What is the model of the scanner?

Yes, and a new entry level $50 USB scanner will do better scans than your Mustek. This is as cheap as a new SCSI card. That will get you a true 600 dpi 48 bit scanner these days, a little more cash will get you 1200 dpi.
