Mysterious User Account created during XP reinstall

Due to a variety of problems I recently did a complete reinstall of my windows XP, and I have found that a mysterious user account has been created in the name of: 'ASP.NET Machine A...' it is a limited account but is password protected.

Can anyone tell me the reason why this account would appear, and whether it is safe to delete it please?

If you delete it it will come back. Bailey tells me it has something to do with security.

It's a web development tool http://www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1

It showed up on mine after I installed a HP PCS 1350 printer software.

I removed it bv entering "control userpasswords2" without quotes in Run command and it hasn't come back.

Yup, I removed it only yesterday, it was in the newsletter from Drisley....
It causes you to have to select the user account at Windows startup instead of just going straight through

Thanks confused, that removed it. What creates it by the way?

Also, in run... control userpasswords2, there appears another administrator account, besides ''ASP.NET Machine A...' which I didn't create but which doesn't show up in my user accounts.

Cool

There should be at least two accounts with Adminstrator privledges. The one called Admistrator created by XP and the one that probably has your name associated with it.

I'm not sure what all creates the Asp.net, I first noticed it on mine after loading software for the HP printer.

The asp.net account is created when you install the .NET framework from Windows Update.

PRB: Welcome to Windows Screen Appears When You Start Windows XP After You Install the .NET Framework 1.1

When you install the .NET Framework 1.1, a hidden local user account that is named ASPNET is created. When you start Windows, Windows treats the ASPNET local user account as an additional user account, although the ASPNET user account is hidden. Therefore, the Welcome screen appears and prompts you to click your user name.
